JUSTIN Rose finished third in the Wells Fargo Championship, just one shot behind winner James Hahn, who beat fellow America Roberto Castro in a play-off for the title.
The former Robert May's pupil carded a one-under 71 in his final round at the Quail Hollow course in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The 2013 US Open champion was joint leader with four to play, but missed two short putts to fall out of contention.
It was a tough closing round for Rose who looked in a good position to claim his for his first PGA Tour win since the Zurich Classic of New Orleans in April last year.
The Englishman missed a four-foot putt for birdie at 15 and a putt of similar length at the next, which cost him a bogey and a chance of the title.
Rose is next in action on Thursday, when he takes part in the The PLAYERS Championship at Sawgrass.
