ADAM Hickling claimed first place at the Be Wiser Insurance Test Valley Golf Club Pro-Am Tournament.

The Stoneham professional carded a three-under-par round of 68 to win the event by a single shot from Botley Park’s Shaun Hall. Mark Dawe (Chilworth) was two shots further back in third.

West Berkshire’s Richard Campbell led Darren Bartlett, Pete Elie and Eugene Slevin to victory in the team event, with a winning score of 129.

Two teams were a single stroke behind in second place. Andrew Cloke (Weybrook Park), Ray Greatrex, Carl Vernon and Barry Higgins shared runners-up spot with Matt Woods (Donnington Grove), Bill Fluen, Brian Nicholson and Dawn Nicholson.

Several north Hampshire professionals took part in the event. Home player Claire Duffy was the best placed, shooting a five-over-par round of 76, two shots better than Danny Fisher (Basingstoke) and Ben Cummings (Tylney Park).

Another Test Valley player, Ali Briggs, carded 79 (+8), one shot ahead of Cloke.

Hayling Island’s Mark Treleaven continued his good form in Hampshire PGA events by winning the Hartley Wintney Golf Club Charity Pro-Am.

A four-under par round of 67 gave Treleaven, who also won the Weybrook Park Pro-Am, victory at Hartley. His score is a new course record and he made birdies at six, 11 and 14, followed by an eagle three at the par-five 16th, before dropping his only shot of the day on 17.

Martin Adams (Swanmore) and Liam Austin (Blackmoor) finished two shots back in a tie for second, with Austin, a former assistant at Hartley, putting his local knowledge to good use.

Weybrook Park’s Steven Went led Brian White, Allan Nicholls and Paul Dooley to victory in the team event, but they needed countback to beat Jonathan Barnes (Lee-on-the-Solent), Philip Welch, Nick Mault and Les Dewdney into second place.

The Golf Monthly-sponsored team of Jack Coulbert (Lee-on-the-Solent), Michael Harris, Michael Weston and Benjamin Nelson claimed third place on countback from two other teams.

Of the north Hampshire professionals, Cummings did best, carding a round of 74 (+3). Stuart Archibald was a shot behind him, with Fisher a further shot back. Briggs shot 77 (+6), two ahead of Cloke, while Went shot 80.
