JUSTIN Rose is seven shots off the pace after shooting a two-over-par round of 72 on the first day of the US Open.
The north Hampshire golfing ace, who won the tournament two years ago, got off to a great start with a birdie at the first hole and while he bogeyed the fourth, a further birdie at 11 had him under par after 14 holes.
However, he dropped shots at three of the last four holes to finish the day on +2, in a share of 52nd place, seven shots behind joint leaders Henrik Stenson and Dustin Johnson.
Rory McIlroy also shot an opening round of +2, while Tiger Woods looks out of contention after a 10-over-par round of 80 at Chambers Bay.
Rose gets his second round under way from the 10th tee at 8.17am (4.17pm BST) today, again playing alongside Jordan Spieth and Jason Day.
