THE very popular monthly family chess morning takes place at the Discovery Centre/Library this Saturday from 10.30 am.
Anyone who fancies a game or some instruction is very welcome to attend.
Basingstoke dropped into relegation trouble in the very strong Berkshire League Division One following a narrow 3 ½ -2 ½ defeat at fellow strugglers Eton College A.
The visitor's points came via wins from Paul Hackman and Philip Ware plus a draw from David Graham.
In the Borders League Division Three, Basingstoke moved into second place with a 3 ½-1 ½ win over Godalming B.
This was thanks to wins from David Graham and Paul Boyd plus draws from James Chilton, Colin Knight and Roy Ashmore.
Basingstoke B have a chance of winning Division Four in the Southampton League.
This was after victories from Frank Bonsey, Peter Beldaus and Adam Matthews earned them a 3-1 over Southampton E.
The team now must beat Winchester B away in their final match.
There is one result from the Basingstoke League where the Junior Club lost to Kempshott 6.5-1.5 The Chess Club meets every Wednesday from 7pm and details can be found on the website basingstokechessclub.co.uk New members always welcome from beginner to seasoned player.
