BASINGSTOKE darts player Paul Hogan’s dream run in the Coral UK Open at Minehead came to an end in the last 16 as he lost 10-6 to Gerwyn Price.

However, the 53-year-old can hold his head up high being the last qualifier left in the competition when he bowed out on Saturday evening.

To reach the last 16, Hogan had earlier in the day beaten Adrian Lewis 10-6.

Hogan thanks to check out scores of 161 and 116 raced into a 4-0 lead and he still looked in command at 8-6.

He then produced a huge 160 finish to extend his lead further and wrapped up the victory with a double 18.

In the third round, Hogan took a massive scalp as he beat two time world champion and current world number two Garry Anderson in a titanic battle.

Hogan came back from 2-0 down against the Flying Scotsman to lead 7-5, before Anderson fired in a 136 to level things.

The match then went to a decider which saw Hogan prevail as Anderson missed the bull for victory.

To reach this stage of the competition, the Basingstoke player who qualified for the tournament at South Benfleet in January, beat Keegan Brown and Jamie Lewis.
