PETANQUE continues to grow in popularity at Racing Club Petanque who have their Terrain at Basingstoke Rugby Football Club.

They have had one of their best ever seasons, with their Rhinos Team winning promotion to Division One, the top tier of the Southern Counties Petanque League for 2017.

Their Racers team also achieved runner up position in Division Four and are eagerly awaiting to see if this gains them a promotion spot into Division Three.

The Rhinos won the title – after winning eight of their 10 games – to come away with the crown.

The winning squad was made up of Kevin Watson (captain), Chris Mann, Caroline Mann, Peter Brown, Brenda Brown, Richard Baker, Daniel Baker, David Cottrell and Kerry Watson.

The Racers in a very hotly contested division won six out of their 12 games to secure second spot.

Their squad was made up of Ross Pollard (captain), Alan Lee, Judy Lee, Anne Palmer, Corinne Baker, Andrea Capulong, Paul Clasper, Pauline Goddard, Malcolm Morrison, Jenny Morrison, Paul West and Patrick Wheeler.

Racing Club Petanque continually seek new members and anyone wishing to try this interesting sport are welcome to come along to club night.

These are held on Thursday night at the Basingstoke Rugby Club from 8pm.
