BASINGSTOKE powerboat racer Daisy Coleman has her sights firmly set on winning this season’s P1 Superstock British Championship.

The 29-year-old will be navigator for her brother Sam Coleman for the 25 race series over five venues, hoping to improve on last year’s second place.

The Coleman Racing team are backed by Pertemps Recruitment Network and they start their quest for the title this weekend at Scarborough.

The series then heads over the border to Scotland, for round two at Greenock (June 18/19).

The third event in the calendar, is their home one on the south coast at Gosport (July 9/10).

The Welsh capital Cardiff will host round four on the August Bank Holiday weekend and then a week later, the season’s finale is at Bournemouth.

Coleman cannot wait for the season to start and said: “Having come third twice and then second last year. It has to be our turn to win it, but in this sport anything can happen.”

Looking ahead to the first races of the season, she said: “Scarborough can often be choppy due to the east winds, but this is what we want, as we normally do well as we can use all of our experience.”

Coleman believes team work is key factor to success in powerboat racing and as she races with her brother, it means they have a really good understanding.

The 29-year-old said: “Sam’s job is to look 30 feet in front of the boat and steer. Once he has to look around, we will lose valuable seconds. So I have to make sure he knows where to go and where the other boats are.”

All the races are free to watch, and the powerboats reach speeds of over 60mph, if the conditions are calm.
