BASINGSTOKE Hockey Club men drew 1-1 at Fareham, as they came back from a goal down at half-time, writes MARK EASTO.

After the interval, Basingstoke sprang into life and a foray down the right saw Dan Bowden drift in field and feed Andy Preston. He shifted the ball onto his reverse stick and then found Grant Rouse who scored.

The visitors then nearly stole all three points, as Bowden's goal bound shot was deflected over, by a last gasp lunge from a defender.

Meanwhile, the seconds beat Winchester 2-1 at Down Grange, while the third team lost at Southampton 5-3.

Despite a good start and early pressure the visitors found themselves 3-1 down at half time, after Rob Lloyd scored for the visitors.

Southampton netted a fourth goal after the break, but strikes from Johnny Lancelles and Mark Easto gave the visitors hope, before a defensive mix-up led to Southampton's fifth.

The fourth team suffered a 3-2 home defeat against Hamble, but their was better news from the fifths 6-1 victors over Yateley.

They were a goal up within five minutes, as Euan Rixson scored and Christopher Jenkins doubled the advantage from a penalty corner.

As the first half neared a close, Rixson scored his second for a 3-0 lead. After the break, goals from Geoff Neale, Kyle Mcfee and Karl Neighbour made sure of the win.

The Ladies first team enjoyed a 3-0 win at Wanderers, thanks to goals from Roxy O’Dea, Cath McCormic and Kirsty Kent.

The seconds played host to high-flying Havant and almost scored in the first minute through Bex Donaldson. Some sustained pressure from Basingstoke earned them a penalty flick, which was confidently put away by Sarah Mainprise, 1-0.

Havant fought back to lead 2-1 at the break, but the home side never gave-up and Tara Stone scored the equaliser as it finished 2-2.

The thirds suffered a 2-1 loss away at Yateley, despite Tania Bridge giving them the lead.

The fourth team also faced Yateley and enjoying a comfortable 10-0 win. Gemma Applegarth netted a hat trick and their were a brace of goals for Jess Ochtman and Sue Pett. Elsewhere, the fifths lost at Gosport 2-0.
