A TOTAL of seven Basingstoke Bluefins swimmers competed at the prestigious British Summer Championships and English Summer Championships.

In the British Championships, Finlay Evans raced in the 100m and 200m freestyle events.

In the 100m, he set off at a blistering pace and narrowly missed his entry time.

Mairead Barker competed in the 200m breaststroke.

She attacked the race right from the off and hit the halfway mark in a time under her lifetime best for the shorter 100m event.

She managed to maintain her form, going on to achieve a personal best time of 2min 37.90sec before finishing ninth in the final.

Mitchell Coombes also competed in the 200m breaststroke event and a good first 100m saw him record a time just shy of his entry time.

Adam Milne, one of the club’s most experienced competitors, once again made the final in his best event, the 50m backstroke, recording a lifetime best of 27.20sec in the heats.

A further trio of Bluefins swimmers were also in Sheffield, competing in the English Summer Championships.

Alfie Evans recorded a lifetime best in the 100m butterfly heats before finishing ninth in the final, recording a time of 1:03.90.

Bluefins Performance Squad members Daisy Moore and Molly Goffin both competed in the 200m breaststroke.

Goffin was agonisingly close to securing a place in the final of the event, missing out by the smallest of margins, less than half-a-second denying her a final berth.

Moore also competed in the 400m individual medley and made it to the final.

After an excellent butterfly leg she went six seconds faster than her heat, finishing ninth.
