ODIHAM hockey star Alex Danson helped England to a 2-1 victory in their opening game of the Unibet European Championships.
The forward came close with an early chance before Scotland took the lead from a penalty corner, thanks to Kareena Marshall after three minutes The home side hit back as captain Kate Richardson-Walsh equalised from an England penalty corner to level it 1-1 at the close of the first quarter.
Helen Richardson-Walsh put England ahead on the 20 minute mark and this proved to be the game winner in a very competitive game.
Damson came close to adding a third goal in the final quarter, but her deflected shot from Lilu Owsley’s cross went wide.
England’s next pool game is on Monday (7.30pm) when they face Italy, who were beaten 4-0 by Germany.
