BASINGSTOKE Wolverines cheerleaders have enjoyed an excellent season, claiming high finishes at several events.

It has been a season of rebuilding for the club following the departure of their head coach and a large portion of their athletes at the end of 2014.

However, it has still been a good couple of months, with the Storm and Mystique squads both excelling at a competition in Bath before heading to Jamfest - in Europe.

The event, held at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, attracted 315 teams from across Britain and Europe.

The Storm squad were one of nine teams in senior level one, which included some of the most successful teams in Britain.

They produced a great performance to secure second place and their second trophy of the season.

Mystique, the club’s youth level one squad, were also in action in Liverpool in a class with an incredible 22 teams, finishing 17th.

In Bath, Storm were crowned champions in their first competition of the season, while Mystique finished eighth in another highly competitive category.

However, the best was yet to come as both teams went on to claim top-10 finishes at the Future Cheer competition, which was held at the Bournemouth International Centre.

The event attracted teams from right across the country and Storm were the first to compete.

Despite a couple of hiccups they managed to finish eighth.

Mystique eradicated the mistakes they had made in earlier competitions, hitting every stunt and producing their most impressive pyramid of the season.

They finished seventh, a massive improvement on previous performances.

Head coach Moriah Walker said: “Future Cheer is the most prestigious competition of the entire season and we were honoured to attend and place as well as we did.

“Both teams performed incredibly well.

“Storm faced many challenges in the weeks leading up to the competition and overcame them all.

“Mystique hit their best routine to date and we could not be any more proud.”

Walker also took part in the event in Bournemouth as part of the senior level five team Unity Ruby from Sutton, helping them to a bronze medal.
