HANNAH Scott retained the girls singles title at the annual Basingstoke Junior Badminton Singles Shield tournament held at Queen Mary’s College.

The reigning champion from Basingstoke Junior Badminton club started her defence in a group with six other girls.

They were Amy Sui-Lee (BJBC), Nicola Lewis and Alice Follet (Allstars BS/Fleet), Louisa Roskilly (QMC/BJBC), Molly Dewey (Costello/BJBC) and Louise Malozzi (Bishop Challoner/Allstars).

Scott came out on top with 126 points ahead of Nicola Lewis on 122 and the pair met one last time in the final, where the reigning champion retained her crown with a 21-14 victory.

In the college boys’ category the field was made up of Adam Hood and Robert Scott (QMC/Waverley BC), Robert MacNiven and Ashley Sargeant (BCOT) and Sai Sherikar (Peter Symonds/BJBC).

Hood won the group with Scott in second spot and the two met in the final, where Hood came out on top, winning 21-14.

The school’s boy’s category was contested by 10 boys in two groups of five.

Group A consisted of Will Ratcliffe and Thomas Dollin (Basingstoke Flyers), Ricky Stephens (Costello/BJBC), Jack Barnard (Brighton Hill School/BJBC) and John Birch (Hurst/BJBC).

Group B was made up of George Tubb (BJBC), Spencer Withey (Hurst, BJBC), Prajwal Kanumolu (Sherfield School), Josh Goldring (Hurst, BJBC) and Rocky Wyatt (Fort Hill, BJBC).

In Group A, Ratcliffe and Stephens finished joint top, while Barnard and Birch were locked together in third spot, with Barnard making the play-off group due to a better head-to-head record.

Kanumolu was the runaway Group B winner, with Goldring in second.

Kanumolu continued his success in the play-offs with victory over Goldring.

In the grand champion game, Hood’s experience told as he beat Kanumolu 21-14.
