OVERTON Black Arrows have enjoyed great success in competitions held over the winter.

Jodie Buckner, shot in the girls under-12 years class of the Archery GB November Challenge competition and came 19th and was seventh of archers of her age.

In the Archery GB’s January Challenge in Portsmouth, Bill Jones was 10th in his group of 82 adults, shooting bare bow, which is without sights.

Richard Buckner was 37th in his group of 529 shooting in the gentlemen’s recurve class (as shot in the Olympics).

Buckner was 48th in the adult ladies recurve group of 64, which was not bad for a young junior, in her first competitive season.

Jones then attended the Glamorganshire and Open Field Championships in the Rhondda Valley shooting bare bow.

He finished the 24 target unmarked distance field round with a score of 248 placing him sixth place overall, and fourth in the Open.

The following day the competition was 24 targets over marked distances and Jones achieved 271, placing him in fifth overall and third in the Open on that day.

Over the two days of competition he finished joint fourth overall and joint third in the Open event.

On Saturday May 30 as part of Archery GB’s Big Weekend, the club will be holding a Try the sport of Archery from 1pm to 4pm at the archery range at Laverstoke.

On June 20 as part of the Whitchurch Primary School fete the club will be the chance to try the sport there.

The club’s beginner’s course commences on Tuesday June 30 from 7pm until 8.30pm at the archery range at Laverstoke.

The club will holding its annual international field archery tournament from July 10 to 12.

Then on July 18 they will be staging a tournament at Laverstoke as part of the Worldwide Whitchurch Weekend.
