ODIHAM hockey star Alex Danson took her international goal tally to 80, after she scored twice in Great Britain’s 5-2 win over Japan.

GB triumphed on home turf in front of a noisy crowd of around 3,000 young people, part of a special schools event at The Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre.

The home side dominated the opening exchanges but were unable to find a breakthrough in the first quarter.

Great Britain delighted the crowd in the second quarter as Danson was brought down by the goalkeeper winning a penalty stroke.

The Odiham player dusted herself off and found the net to make it 1-0 and then Laura Unsworth added a penalty corner strike after 20 minutes.

Japan hit back in the third quarter from Akiko Kato, but their joy was short lived as GB scored three times in four minutes, thanks to Danson’s second as well as further strikes from Helen Richardson-Walsh and Sophie Bray.

Great Britain face Japan for a third time today at Lee Valley as part of their build-up tomorrow the Olympic qualifiers in June and the EuroHockey Championships in August.
