BASINGSTOKE Hockey Club’s ladies turned in a five-star performance at Eastbourne, defeating their hosts 5-0.

Visiting captain Catriona Bausor opened the scoring from a well-drilled penalty corner before player/coach Lisa Scarborough doubled the lead with a solo effort.

Roxy O’Dea struck a beautiful short corner to make it 3-0 at half-time.

After the break, O’Dea quickly scored her second and then Bausor converted another short corner.

The seconds visited Portsmouth and Southsea, securing a 3-0 win, that moved them three points clear at the top of South Hockey League Hampshire Division Two.

However, the home side had the best chance to open the scoring after Helen Hornsby stopped the ball in an unorthodox manner in between her knees, but Nicky Ball saved the ensuing penalty flick.

After the break, the visitors opened their account as Gilly Dunning finished a well-rehearsed penalty corner, firing over the home goalie.

Play between Lucy Lee-Smith, Dunning and Laura Marks forced another penalty corner, which Sarah Mainprise stepped up and struck into the bottom right hand corner.

The move that led to Basingstoke’s third goal was started by Tara Stone. She struck the ball down the line and after Marks and Catherine Woodliffe combined it was left to Lee-Smith to tap in.

In the men’s section, the fourths travelled to Fareham for a top-of-the-table showdown.

The game was evenly matched throughout and the first half ended 0-0.

After the break, the visitors came out the stronger and their pressure told as Alex Stewart broke through and found Eliot Boyd at the back post to score.

Adam Neighbour nearly doubled their lead, but his drag flick was saved by the Fareham goalkeeper.

The home side then came looking for an equaliser and only the heroics of man-of-the-match Frank Preyser kept them out.

The fifths lost 3-0 at home to Swanage and Wareham. Basingstoke started well and created several chances from man-of-the-match Kyle McFee, Alex Simons and Chris Jenkins.

Unfortunately, the opposition rallied. Basingstoke were 2-0 down at half-time and conceded a third after the break.
