THE junior Basingstoke Blizzards teams had a busy time in January, with the under-12, under-14 and under-16 sides all in action.

The under-12s enjoyed a winning double, which began with a 32-30 overtime win over Weymouth. Max Wren got the decisive basket, finishing a move planned by coach Simon Wyatt during a time out.

They followed this up with a 34-20 victory against Winchester II.

All of the youngsters played well, with Denzel Dangana, Ethan Wyatt and JJ Tauro getting a big share of the points.

The under-16s went one better and had a triple success despite having a few players missing. Ben Firrell and Jack Bond came up from the under-14 squad and held their own.

The team started out with a 49-35 victory over Tres Barriles and then beat Winchester 55-38.

Their final game was against a strong Gosport side and after one quarter they trailed 16-11.

They drew level by half-time before going on to win the contest 55-47.

Matthieu Rident led the team’s scoring with 108 points during the day.

Other good performances came from George Woodford-White, who made several three-pointers, while Jack Hutchins, Ben Firrell, Jack Bond all scored points.

Phill Mavronicholas and Faris Whitwham also got in on the act and Dan Sheshtanov was excellent under the rim as he gathered all the rebounds.

The under-14s made a slow start in their first game, losing 55-26 to Weymouth, before going down 40-38 against Kestrels Academy.

Meanwhile, the senior Blizzards team disposed of Farnborough Phantoms 96-60.

Rob Gerrard led the scoring with 27 points, while Joe Snelgrove (21), Tom Fulford (15), Aaron Taylorson (12), Adam Paddon (9) were also on form.

Doug Awad, Tom Mavronicholas and Chris Elliman all got two points each.

The Blizzards then suffered a disappointing 62-58 defeat at the Aztec Jaguars.

Once again Gerrard was their top scorer with a 32 point haul, while three other players scored points; Taylorson (12), Paddon (8) and Mavronicholas (6).

The Bobcats enjoyed a 63-54 victory over the Chiltern Fastbreak. Awad made the difference with 20 points in a good all-round team performance.
