GRANT Rouse scored four times as Basingstoke Hockey Club’s men’s team made it four wins on the trot, by beating visiting Hamble 8-3.

The home side made the most of an early short corner, as Jed Mills fired a rocket into the bottom corner.

Hamble equalised, but Andy Preston pushed forward and his ball into the D was deflected home by Rouse.

Two quick goals after the break made it 4-1, Rouse and Mark Smith finding the net.

The visitors scored their second, but two more goals from Rouse, a fine finish from Dean Record and Dave Stones’ strike took the score to 8-2 before a late Hamble consolation goal.

Pete Wood scored twice as the fourth team continued their unbeaten run with a 4-2 victory at home against Blandford.

Basingstoke opened the scoring after Alex Tatnall scored a one-on-one chance.

After the break, Eliot Boyd found space on the baseline and doubled the home side’s lead.

Blandford quickly levelled, but Basingstoke man-of the-match Wood made it 3-2 as he netted a loose ball during a penalty corner and then scored his second of the game.

The fifth team lost 8-1 at Hamble, despite opening the scoring from an early short corner.

Karl Neighbour fired the ball to the right post and Matt Maleski deflected it in.

The final score did not reflect the effort of the team, which was epitomised by fine performances from Ryan Over, Jamie Edwards and a stunning goal line clearance from man-of-the-match Jamie MacQuilllin.

In the ladies section, the seconds drew 0-0 at home to Trojans, with Basingstoke’s best chances coming from Annalise Whitehead and Bev Mackay, while Nicky Ball made a number of good saves.

The thirds drew 4-4 with visiting City of Portsmouth in a game in which the home side led four times thanks to Nicola Burridge (2), Ellie Pearson and Rachel Bomphrey.

The fourth team lost 3-1 at City of Portsmouth and the home side led 2-0 at half-time.

After the break, defender Miranda Smith intercepted a Portsmouth pass. She then drove the length of the pitch before pushing the ball into the Ports-mouth area.

Sue Pett collected the pass and the goal was tapped in at the post by Kirsty Postuma.

An on-target short-corner strike from Alice Hooper was then disallowed, before the home side added a third goal.
