THE Basingstoke and District Tennis League ran under-14 and under-16 leagues during the summer months, with teams from Andover, Oakley, Odiham and Preston Candover competing.

In the under-16 category, Andover retained their title.

In their opening matches, they beat both Odiham and Preston Candover 7-1 with Gregor Corcoran teaming up with Thomas Lee and Anna Manole respectively to remain unbeaten in both matches. They were ably supported by Amy McDonald and Georgia Moon.

The return fixtures however, proved much more difficult for the champions.

In the first fixture, the Odiham pairing of Charlie and Will Flynn played some excellent tennis against both the Andover pairs, taking a set from each.

Despite being well supported by Antonia Macphee and Jackint Bansal they were unable to prevent Andover taking the match 6-2.

The return match against Preston Candover saw their team of Tom Bradshaw/William Chattell and Dan Walker-Arnott/Jacob Thomas produce a good all round display and give the Andover team a scare before the champions eventually ran out 5-3 victors to remain unbeaten.

Odiham went on to take runners up spot after victories over Preston Candover by 6-2 and 5-3.

Harry Michael/William Flynn won all their sets in the 6-2 match.

In the under-14 league, Oakley joined Andover and Preston Candover to do battle on a home and away basis.

Both Andover and Preston Candover had two comfortable 8-0 wins each against the Oakley side. In their first match the Oakley pairings of Jack Sargent/Alex Trott and Josh Branch/Seb Cross were unable to prevent a defeat to the Andover team of William Moon/Michael Cooke and Tommy Mackie/Mark Mackie.

The matches between Andover and Preston Candover were much closer, both ending in draws.

All pairings in both matches were able to win sets with the Andover team represented by Sam Truscott, Tom Grossi, William Moon, Harriet Steptoe, Michael Cooke, Tom Mackie and Alicia Cole.

The Preston Candover team comprised William Chattell, Tom Bradshaw, Dan Walker-Arnott, Jorge Messa and Jacob Thomas.

This left both Andover and Preston Candover level on points and sets won with two wins and two draws each, so the title was shared.
