BASINGSTOKE Hockey Club’s ladies maintained their 100 per cent record with a 5-1 home win over newly-promoted Barnes at a wet Down Grange on Saturday.

Fi Parker put them ahead early in the game and good work from Cath McCormick and Lisa Scarborough then allowed Parker to turn provider, passing for Catriona Bausor to double the lead before half-time.

Parker made it 3-0 after the break, before Jo Pett touched in a short corner rebound. Barnes pulled a goal back, but Parker completed her hat-trick to give her side a 5-1 win.

The ladies are at home again on Saturday, hosting Wimbledon (11.45am).

The second team also picked up a win, beating visiting Eastleigh 3-2 thanks to goals from Caroline Mackay, Ruth Crawford and Gilly Dunning, and stay top of Hampshire Division Two ahead of a visit from Winchester on Saturday (10.15am).

The thirds also won 3-2, beating hosts Waterside with goals from Gemma Applegarth, Sharon Holden, and Catherine Woodliffe. The fourths lost 2-1 to Havant, while goals from Gemma Carswell and Michelle Rounding gave the fifths a 2-0 win at Gosport.

The men’s first team found the going tough in their first Hampshire/Surrey Division One game of the season, losing 5-1 at Winchester.

Basingstoke, who were promoted at the end of last season, had only Greg Smith’s converted penalty flick to show for their trip.

They face Wanderers at Down Grange on Saturday (1.30pm).

The second team also had a disappointing start to their league campaign, losing 7-1 at home to Gillingham. Basingstoke’s goal came from Dave Stones.

The men’s third team lost 5-0 at Romsey, the fourths went down 2-0 at Portsmouth and Southsea and the fifths were beaten 6-0 by Camberley and Farnborough.

The Vikings fared better, beating visiting City of Portsmouth 4-0, while the under-16s beat Romsey 3-2 in their first game of the new season.
