FORMER Reading captain Jem Karacan has signed for Turkish side Galatasary.

The 26-year-old midfielder, who is a product of the club's academy, has signed a three-year deal with the Turkish giants following the expiration of his contract at the Madejski Stadium.

He made nearly 150 appearances for the Royals, scoring 12 goals, and was made captain by former manager Nigel Adkins. He only made nine appearances last season as he came back from a serious knee injury, but Reading were keen to keep him.

The club have also lost Fran Kirby, the star of their ladies' team, who has moved to Chelsea Ladies for a British record fee.

Reading played their first pre-season friendly in Bangkok yesterday, drawing 2-2 with Thailand All Stars.

Nick Blackman has the Royals ahead on 35 minutes, but the home side levelled just before the break and took the lead early in the second half.

Striker Pavel Pogrebnyak earned the tourists a draw, sweeping home Dominic Samuel's cross with 15 minutes left.
