READING were unable to build on Tuesday night’s victory over Rotherham in the Championship, as they lost 1-0 at home to Charlton, in a scrappy game at the Madejski Stadium.

The London side struck the winner after 39 minutes, after Igor Vetokele converted Chris Solly’s cross.

Up until then the home side had most of the chances with Glenn Murray going closest.

For the second game, running Reading’s Oliver Norwood hit the post with a 20-yard shot, as the visitors were content to defend their 1-0 lead.

Murray and Jamie Mackie went close to getting Reading an equaliser, while Charlton’s George Tucudean was denied by home goalie Adam Federici.

Manager Nigel Adkins highlighted the domination of his team in the game, and said: “We had 20 shots, 12 corners and end up being beat 1-0.

"Charlton then scored and it gave them something to defend, which they did very well."

Reading have next weekend off due to international matches and so are next in action, away at Cardiff City on Friday November 21 (kick-off 7.45pm).
