OVERTON United moved up to seventh in the Hampshire Premier League table with a 2-0 victory away at Liss Athletic on Saturday.
The visitors took the lead after 12 minutes, Dan Parry running on to goalkeeper Sean O’Brien’s kick and volleying into the net from the edge of the area.
The lead was doubled soon after, Parry getting his second of the game, this time firing home from 10 yards after the goalkeeper had failed to hold Danny Houseman’s cross.
Further chances fell to Overton, with Chris Lavisher having an effort cleared off the line, Alex Jupp hitting the post and Parry hitting the crossbar before half-time.
Liss improved after the break but the visitors held firm and could have extended their lead late on, Myles Englefield, Lavisher and Houseman all failing to convert decent chances.
Manager Titch Bloomfield said: “It was a fantastic team performance. We had a few players out injured, but credit to the lads, they played well and deserved their win.”
Next up for Overton is a home game against a strong Locks Heath side on Saturday.
“It will be a tough one but they all are in this league,” Bloomfield added. “They had a good win last week but we are flying high.”
In the same division, AFC Aldermaston drew 2-2 at home to QK Southampton last week. They sit 13th in the table ahead of a trip to Otterbourne, who are just above them, on Saturday.
