HERRIARD Sports completed a remarkable and unexpected double by beating hot favourites Tron 5-4 in the Basingstoke B Cup final on Saturday evening at the Winklebury Football Complex.

This was just four days after lifting the North Hants Junior Cup at Whitchurch after a 4-1 win over Winklebury.

Holders Herriard retained their Basingstoke B Cup as they ended Tron's 23 game unbeaten record with a well deserved victory.

Tron were shaken in the opening four minutes when Sam Cato hit the bar and as the ball was not cleared and Craig Hines forced it over the line.

Cato then hit the post and in a frantic spell as Lorne Howard rocked the woodwork for Tron with a 25 yard effort.

There were more problems for the favourites as in the 26th minute as Chris Dobbie played in Cato for his second.

Tron pulled a goal back after 51 minutes, when Jamie Ballantyne forced home a Lorne Howard free kick.

On the hour mark they were level as substitute Charlie Hart headed in a free kick from Zac Reynolds.

Five minutes later, Herriard made it 3-2 as a strong run down the left by Cato, saw him brought down by goalkeeper Shane Moody who escaped a red card, but Cato converted the penalty.

Tron equalised again from Howard's 20-yard deflected effort and took the lead from Connor Dawber.

Herriard levelled with six minutes left from Alex Roberts' 40-yard free-kick.

With time up and extra time looking likely man of the match Chris Dobbie came up with the dramatic winner. Before the final whistle Tron had Ben Nichols and Zac Reynolds sent off by Referee Ron Hanley for alleged abusive language.

On Wednesday night, Herriard won their first trophy and had a dream start against the Winklebury Wizards as Dobbie scored from a free-kick and then with 16 minutes gone it was 2-0 as Cato scored from the penalty spot, after being fouled by Dean Scott.

The Wizards then lost Scott to a broken collar bone, but came back strongly as Jack Arthur headed a chance wide and Connor Stratton had two efforts scrambled away and only a superb save by goalkeeper Dave Purt stopped Dan Costain pulling a goal back.

Wizards had a good chance on the hour mark when sub Scotty Winterbourne through one-on-one shot wide.

Herriard were then gifted a third, as Arthur attempted to head back to his goalkeeper Gavin Alexander, but it fell short and Sam Weber nipped in to score.

They added a fourth as a complete mix up between Scott Large and the goalkeeper handed Weber his second.

There was still time for a late consolation for Wizards, when a sliced clearance by Stuart Minton saw goalkeeper Purt parry and Adam Bartlett followed up to net.
