UNDERDOGS Soldiers Return Reserves caused an upset by coming from two goals down to beat UWS 3-2 in the Bernard Cornish Cup on Sunday.

Goals from Lee Head and Chris Rowe seemed to have Basingstoke and District Sunday League Division Two UWS in control, but Soldiers Return, who play their football in Division Three, fought back to claim an unexpected win.

Andy Butler scored twice to level the game and Ben Allutt smashed in a late winner to complete the comeback.

FC Everest’s run of wins is up to eight games after they beat North Warnborough II 4-2 to progress in the same competition.

Everest scored the only goal of the first half and while Pete Keens levelled for the visitors soon after the break, two more goals had the hosts in control. Trevor Rodgers reduced the deficit to a single goal at 3-2 but an own-goal dashed Warnborough’s hopes of staging a recovery.

Division Two New Inn claimed a 5-3 victory away at Division Three AFC Golden Lion, with Steve Bean and Ed Hall both finding the net twice. Richard Garry was the other New Inn scorer, while Byron Letch, Richard Anthony and Matthew Spargo all found the net for the hosts.
