HAMPSHIRE Irons shocked league leaders Overton United A in the only Basingstoke and District Saturday League Division One fixture to survive the wet weather.

Visiting Overton took a 15th-minute lead through Joe Lake and Michael Pemberton doubled the advantage before half-time, before Irons hit back after the break.

Craig Hopper pulled a goal back on the hour, while Alex Brown levelled the scores soon after and then got his second of the match to claim all three points for Irons.

Basingstoke Athletic returned to the top of the Division Two table with a 3-1 win over Basingstoke United.

Dave Trevellion opened the scoring for Athletic on 25 minutes, a low shot squeezing through the legs of United goalkeeper James Sallows, while Ryan Evans doubled the lead before half-time.

United pulled a goal back after the break, Darren Southgate volleying home from distance, but Dale Bristow made the game safe for Athletic in the closing stages.

Labour Club’s good run was brought to an end by struggling AFC Aldermaston A. Liam Belcher put Aldermaston ahead on 16 minutes and while Labour levelled through Rylan Willows on the half hour, Andy Barfoot got what proved to be the winner.

Preston Candover staged a fine comeback to draw 5-5 with Winklebury Wizards.

Winklebury raced into a three-goal lead, with Scotty Winterbourne scoring twice and Hugo Carlos getting the third, but Candover pulled a goal back through Michael Fuller before half-time.

A penalty completed Winterbourne’s hat-trick and while Joe Tomlinson then did the same for Candover, Ryan Watt’s strike seemed to have the Wizards in control at 5-2.

However, Candover fought back, with crosses from Ben Coe creating three goals that earned them a point. Matty Oram got two of them, either side of Richard Spiers’ strike.

Herriard Sports won a high-scoring encounter against Sherborne St John Reserves 6-3.

Stuart Minton and Sam Weber both had Herriard ahead, only for James Price to level on both occasions, making it 2-2 at half-time.

Craig Lewington and Weber’s second put Herriard 4-2 up after the break and while Sherborne responded through Mike Shillingford, further goals from Gary Parker and Matt Hickie completed a big win for Herriard.
