HERRIARD Sports produced the big shock in the quarter-finals of the Basingstoke Junior B Cup as they beat Winklebury Wizards 4-2, writes Peter Raynbird.

They did it the hard way as the Wizards scored first from Josh Dickens as he got behind a square Herriard defence.

Five minutes later, Michael Higgs levelled things as he lobbed the goalkeeper.

Wizards’ Darren Gilbanks then saved a penalty from Stuart Minton, but Herriard were not to be denied as Weber made it 2-1.

The lead was extended by Martin Miles, before Hugo Carlos made it 3-2 and it was left to Weber to book a semi-final place.

Basingstoke Athletic book their place in the last four as they beat Bounty United 1-0. The lone goal came after 53 minutes from Matt Button.

Basingstoke United pulled off a good win away to AFC Aldermaston A 5-3.

Kevin Flain gave the home side the lead, but United came back strongly to take a 3-1 lead thanks to Jamie Lucas, Callum Silcox and Dan Southgate.

Before half-time Aldermaston were awarded a penalty, conceded by Gavin Harkness. Tony Johnson made no mistake and Aldermaston levelled after 54 minutes as Flain scored his second.

United made sure of the victory thanks to a solo strike from Southgate and Ryan Bennett scored a fifth from a free-kick.

Preston Candover proved too strong for lowly Sherborne St John Reserves and cruised through with an 8-1 away win.

Kyle Buckland completed a straight hat-trick, Mike Fuller scored the fourth and a Ben Coe penalty made it 5-0.

For Sherborne Nick Coombs hit the post and Connor Perris rattled both the post and bar, before Connor Perrin scored on 70 minutes.

Buckland then netted his fourth, Fuller his second and finally Rob Stait finished off the rout.

Hook went out at the quarter-final stage of the North Hants Intermediate Cup as they lost 3-2 to visiting Broughton.

Trailing 2-0 at half-time, Hook hit back as Aaron King scored a penalty after Andy Parker was brought down and Peter Pike drove in a 30-yard free-kick to level. Broughton scored the winner 10 minutes from time.

In the other quarter final, Rising Sun DC found they had only six players available to travel to Tadley Calleva A, so Tadley will be the last Basingstoke side left in the competition.

Hook Reserves were unable to raise a team for their Basingstoke A Cup quarter-final, so Basingstoke Royals were awarded a place in the semi-final.
