THE Basingstoke Strikers Disabled Football team were beaten in the semi-finals of their own popular tournament at the weekend.
The annual event saw11 teams compete, they were Andover Street Ahead, All Stars, Bournemouth AFC B and Cherries, Feltham Bees, HFT from Kingston, Woking Wolves, Wolverines and Wombats and the Basingstoke Strikers had two teams the Lions and Tigers.
There was mixed fortunes for the two Basingstoke sides. The Tigers lost all their four group games, but the Lions won three of their five group games to clinch second in their group.
This set-up a semi-final with the Woking Wolves, which they lost 2-0, while in the other last four showdown Woking Wolverines beat Andover Street Ahead 1-0.
This set-up an all Woking final which the Wolverines won by a single goal. In the third and fourth place play-off saw Andover beat Basingstoke Strikers Lions team 2-0.
For the first time this year there was an able bodied adult seven-a-side which was won by a team led by former Basingstoke Town striker Ian Mancey as they out of their six games they won four, drew one and lost one.
The Smilers came second with two wins, two draws and two losses.
Once again it was a great raising funds for the club and they would like to thank sponsors PB Edwards, all the team and people who attended and also those who helped to make it a great day.
