BASINGSTOKE Town will go in search of their biggest scalp of the season, when the Southern League Premier Division leaders Chippenham Town are the visitors on Saturday.

The Dragons roared to their first home league win of 2017 at the Ark Cancer Charity Stadium last weekend, when visiting Biggleswade Town were beaten 2-1, as Aaron Jarvis and Ashleigh Artwell scored.

This moved Town up to 11th in a run which has seen them win five out of their last seven games to end any worry of being sucked into an end of season relegation dogfight.

Chippenham are seven points clear at the top and have not lost since the end of November and will arrive in Basingstoke having won eight of their last nine games.

The Dragons lost at Chippenham in October 2-0 as Matt Jones and Andy Sandell scored and will keen to keep another Bluebirds sharp shooter in former Town man David Pratt off the score sheet this weekend.

Looking ahead to the game, manager Terry Brown said: “It was an ugly game last Saturday against Biggleswade, but we won it and that was good to see. We know Chippenham are good side and in Andy Sandell and David Pratt they have two of the best strikers in this league. So the defence is going to have to be at its best for sure."

“They will come here wanting to win, but the boys are always up for challenge so it should be a good game.”

The match is being sponsored by the Basingstoke Town Supporters Club in the memory of popular supporter John Turner who died last year.

A fan for over 25 years, he was the co founder of the Friends of Basingstoke Town, when there was no supporters club.

He was also a chairman of the supporters club, a well liked character around the ground.
