COMBINED Counties League Premier Division champions Hartley Wintney signed off their season in great fashion as they beat visiting local rivals Camberley Town 3-2.

A good crowd turned up to see if Town could get the win that would enable them to be promoted ahead of Ashford Town.

The visitors started by putting the Hartley goal under pressure with direct play from a series of long throws and corners.

From a long throw in Matt Bunyan had and effort on the edge of the box saved by Craig Atkinson. Almost immediately Bunyan had another effort which brought out a good save from Atkinson.

Hartley gradually came into the game and on 31 minutes took the lead.

Ross Cook made progress on the left and into the penalty box when he was upended by Marcus Cousins. The referee pointed to the penalty spot Cook stepped up and scored easily.

On 44 minutes, Marcus Cousins found space in the Hartley penalty box and his shot brought a good save from Atkinson who tipped the ball onto the post and out.

It took Camberley just around a minute to draw level at the start of the second half.

Bunyan sent a pass to Perry Coles who scored with a low shot.

On 56 minutes, Cook found space on the left and his shot from a difficult angle brought a good save from the Krooners goalie Craig Bradshaw.

Hartley continued to threaten and on 59 minutes Sam Argent was unlucky to see his header go just past the post from a Dean Stow cross.

Three minutes later, the Row regained the lead. A Camberley defender’s attempted back pass under pressure fell short and Cook had a clear run in on goal. The Hartley striker dribbled around the outrushing Bradshaw and shot into an unguarded net.

On 64 minutes a speculative lob from Camberley’s Dean Greenwood deceived Atkinson and dropped just past the post.

Three minutes later, after a break in play Camberley pulled level with a bizarre goal. Craig Bradshaw took a free-kick in his own half some 60 yards from goal and seemingly over hit the ball.

Atkinson presumably thought the ball was going to clear the crossbar but suddenly the ball dipped and finished up in the net amid wild celebrations from the visiting players and followers.

On 69 minutes Camberley almost took the lead. Hartley players stopped expecting a free-kick to be awarded in their favour. The referee waved play on and Bunyan in the clear was denied by a good save from Craig Atkinson.

Camberley pressed forward looking for the goal that would secure promotion and on 79 minutes a long free-kick was headed past by Bunyan.

The game became very feisty and on 84 minutes Camberley were reduced to 10 men. Nick Sowden put in a bad challenge on Duff and received a straight card.

The Row finished strongly and Cook shot wide when well placed on 87 minutes. A minute later the same player had the ball in the net after good work by Argent, but the celebrations were cut short by an offside flag from the assistant referee.

On 90 minutes Hartley scored a goal of quality to give them a deserved win. Good inter passing down the right wing saw Cook gain space on the right side of the penalty box and his accurate cross was fired home by Argent.

For Hartley Liam Eagle and Steve Noakes were outstanding in dealing with a seemingly endless assault of long high balls from the visitors.

Hartley's joint manager Daniel Brownlie said: "What a magnificent season it's been. Everyone at the club is very proud of what the boys have achieved this year, it's been a tremendous effort all round. I couldn't offer high enough praise for the players, simply outstanding. An absolute pleasure to work with. This club deserved a special team and this group of players are exactly that. What a season. What a team. What a club."
