BASINGSTOKE Town manager Jason Bristow insists that his side will be going all-out to win their final game of the Vanarama Conference South season at Weston-super-Mare on Saturday.

The Dragons are already assured of their place in the play-off semi-finals, the first leg of which will be played next Wednesday, but their opponents are still to be decided.

Depending on how results go on the final day, Town could end the season second, third, fourth or fifth in the table. It would take a bizarre set of results for them to finish fifth, while they can only finish second if they win and Boreham Wood lose away at Chelmsford City.

Victory in Somerset would pretty much guarantee a top-three finish, securing them home advantage in the second leg of the play-off semi-finals, while defeat would consign them to fourth place, meaning they would play at home first.

Another factor to throw into the mix is the fact that the play-off final will be held at the home ground of the finalist that finishes higher in the table.

So while it would seem that Basingstoke have little to play for this Saturday, the result could have a big bearing on the play-offs.

Bristow said: “We want to finish second and while we have a chance to do that, we will go all out to achieve it. We want to win the game and will pick a team to do that.

“Some players will not want to rest, feeling that 10 days’ break would be too much for them, but we will speak to individuals and ask them if they feel fresh.

“If players think that missing the game would be a good thing for them going into the play-offs, we will take that into account, but we want to win the game and will pick a team that we believe can do that.”

Two players who will definitely miss Saturday’s game are suspended duo Liam Enver-Marum and Shaun McAuley, who will also sit out the first leg of the play-off semi-finals. However, Simon Dunn has an outside chance of being fit after recovering well from an ankle injury, while James Harper will return after missing the draw with Havant through illness.

Weston have very little to play for on the final day of the season and have won just one of their last eight, but they gave Town a scare when they visited The Soccer AM Stadium last month, the hosts needing a late goal to win 2-1.

“Weston play the game in the right way and have a lot of good young players,” Bristow added. “They like to keep the ball and move it well, so we will have to be on top of our game to get the result we want.”
