BOUNTY United’s hopes of winning the Basingstoke and District Saturday League Division Two title suffered another blow as they were held to a 4-4 draw by visiting Preston Candover at May’s Bounty.

The hosts seemed to be cruising at the break, leading 4-1. Matt Love scored twice, with Mitchell Stokes and Steve Bucksey also finding the net, while Mike Fuller was the man on the scoresheet for Candover.

Things changed completely in the second half, with Kyle Buckland’s quick double reducing the deficit to a single goal.

Candover pressed and got the equaliser with three minutes to go, Mark Oram heading home Tom Green’s corner.

Basingstoke Athletic remain on course to win the title after beating AFC Berg 4-2.

They took the lead after just two minutes, James Lounton converting Nathan Read’s cross, but Berg pulled level on 25 minutes, Nick Tucker beating two men before firing beyond Athletic goalkeeper Luke Allison.

Roman Vanic’s corner led to Lounton making it 2-1 at half-time, but again Berg found a response, Richard McCoubrie levelling the game for a second time early in the second half.

It wasn’t until the 80th minute that Athletic regained the advantage, substitute Matt Button scoring from a Read corner, and Lounton completed his hat-trick five minutes from time to seal the points.

Athletic sit second in the table, two points behind leaders Labour Club, but they have three games in hand.

Sherborne St John Reserves hosted Overton United B in a bottom-of-the-table clash, Overton grabbing all three points thanks to a late goal.

Andy Darmody in the Sherborne goal, pulled off some good saves from Darren Hutchins and Hayden Chalker, while Overton ’keeper Richard Harris made a vital stop to deny Alex Izzo.

The game was settled five minutes from time, when Hutchins beat the offside trap and played Joe Holder in.

He made no mistake, smashing the ball into the roof of the net to give his side the win in their final game of the season.
