JORDAN Hobday impressed with both bat and ball as Hook and Newnham Basics II claimed an eight-wicket win over visiting Purbrook in Hampshire Cricket League County Division One.

Liam Doran was the home side's top bowler, taking 4-70, but Hobday took 3-50 as Purbrook were dismissed for 224 off the last ball of their 50 overs.

Hook's chase was reduced to 176 from 32 overs and a big second-wicket partnership between Sam Bruin (59 not out) and Hobday (58) did the damage as the hosts got over the line for the loss of two wickets.

Basingstoke and North Hants III are up to third in Division Two after beating visiting United Services by five wickets.

Andy Neal took 4-36 and Harry Smith 3-56 as the visitors were bowled out for 201, while Russell Droy top-scored with 78 and Callum Coombs hit an unbeaten 54 to see his side home.

Old Basing were bowled out for 137 by visiting Compton and Chandlers Ford, who went on to win by eight wickets.

Hartley Wintney II suffered a dramatic one-run defeat at home to Liss in Division Three North.

The visitors reached an imposing 305-8, but Chris Saville led the Hartley reply, hitting 108 to give his side a chance of winning the game.

The match went down to the final ball, with Hartley's last pair needing two runs to win or one to tie. They went for the run, but James Philpott was unable to make his ground and Liss emerged narrow victors.

Hobos remain top of the table after beating visiting Overton. Muntaz Ali took 5-21 as Overton were bowled out for 130 and the leaders got home for a four-wicket win.

Hook and Newnham Basics III are third after a 98-run win away at Hursley Park.

Harry Warner hit 102 and shared a 150 partnership with Joe Allnutt (73) as Hook reached 268-6 before bowling their hosts out for 170, with Sean Edwards taking 3-26.

Bottom side AWE Tadley went down to a 111-run defeat away at Littleton and West Hill, being bowled out for 119 chasing their hosts' total of 230-7.

It was a good day for local sides in Division Four North, with both Oakley and Whitchurch winning.

Oakley batted first against visiting Bishop's Waltham II, Patrick Saines top-scoring with 56 as they reached 207-6. Steve Bown then took 5-44 as Oakley bowled their guests out for 293 in reply.

Richard Osmond made 87 and Tom Trinder 69 as Whitchurch reached 253-8 away at Sparsholt II. The home side were then bowled out for 186, giving Whitchurch a 67-run win.
