SAM Bruin hit a century as Hook and Newnham Basics II beat Sarisbury Athletic II by 59 runs to move up to sixth in Hampshire Cricket League County Division One.

Opener Bruin hit 13 fours over the course of his 129-ball 105, putting on 103 for the second wicket with Andy Darmody (40) as Hook reached 258-6.

Liam Doran (4-52) and Colin Lye (3-34) then starred with the ball as hosts Sarisbury were dismissed for 199.

Basingstoke and North Hants III and Old Basing both suffered defeat in Division Two.

Old Basing bowled hosts Petersfield out for 183 and while Greg Donaldson hit 84, the visitors were dismissed for 159, losing by 24 runs.

Basingstoke were unable to defend their total of 180-9 at home to Easton and Martyr Worthy, losing by three wickets.

Hartley Wintney II's Andrew O'Kelly smashed his way to an excellent 130, but it was all in vain as the strugglers lost by six wickets at home to St Cross Symondians IV in Division Three North.

O'Kelly's knock helped the hosts to an all-out total of 239, but St Cross got home for the loss of just four wickets.

Overton sit third in the table after winning by 47 runs at Michelmersh and Timsbury. Batting first, Overton reached 226-9, a total that the home side were unable to match, with Charlie Gray taking 4-32 as they were bowled out for 179.

Hobos maintained their good start to the season with a three-wicket victory at Liss, successfully chasing 220 to win the game.

Jordan Hobday hit 53 as Hook and Newnham Basics III were bowled out for 148 at Flamingo. The hosts made short work of this target, winning by seven wickets.

Michael Deller-Merricks made 74 and Will Belfield 57 as AWE Tadley reached 211-8, but visiting Alton III knocked off the required runs to win by eight wickets.

Oakley enjoyed a comfortable six-wicket win away at Whiteparish in County Division Four North.

Tommy Holbrook took four wickets as the home side were restricted to 164-9 batting first. Gerry Dique (74) and Dan Sumner (53) got the Oakley innings off to a great start with an opening stand of 120 as the visitors reached their target for the loss of four wickets.

Whitchurch did not fare so well at home to Compton and Chandlers Ford II. Richard Osmond top-scored with 61 as Whitchurch were dismissed for 178, with the visitors knocking off the required runs to win by six wickets.
