FIVE wickets from Shane Brewer made sure Hook and Newnham Basics recorded their first win this season in the Southern League Division One, as they beat visiting Tichborne Park by seven wickets.
The visitors having won the toss, decided to bat and were soon in trouble at 24-3 as Brewer (5-51) and Jordan Hobday (2-37) got amongst the top order.
Opener Martin Cheyney (26) and Thomas Allam (14) looked to have steadied the ship, but Brewer and Hobday made sure the visitors were six down with just 59 scored.
Middle order batsman William Allam top scored with 28, but he was caught by Josh Buckingham – one of four catches for the wicket keeper in the game.
Kevin Poulter (2-10) and Rupert Armstrong (1-18) made sure Tichborne were all out for 149.
Despite the early loss of Ben Thane and then skipper Matt Love (21), Hook were soon in control, thanks to a great innings by Hobday (79).
Along with Richard Willcock (20) the pair moved the score to 76-3.
It was then left to Hobday and Matt Buckingham (16) to see Hook home with 20 overs to spare.
Next for Hook is a trip to the Isle of Wight to face Ventnor.
