Former Hampshire spinner Danny Briggs made his maiden first-class century, an unbeaten 120, before Sussex secured a first-innings lead of 273 against South Africa A.
A week after their 251-run win against Hampshire, South Africa A conceded 458 against Sussex at Arundel.
Batting at number seven, Briggs made 120 from only 154 balls (15 fours).
His previous highest score was 54, his only first-class half-century, for Hampshire against Gloucestershire at The Ageas Bowl in 2013.
Sussex had been 90-4, but after a stand of 172 between Delray Rawlins (96) and Jonty Jenner (68), Briggs shared in partnerships of 79 with Abidine Sakande (17) and 70 with first-class debutant Jake Hutson (25).
He said: “It’s nice to get the opportunity to bat at seven, it gives you that time and the wicket was easy-paced.
“If you stick to your game plan you can bat well on it.”
Briggs, who is from the Isle of Wight, then took 2-42 as South Africa were bowled out for 185 before following on 273 behind.
The 26 year-old is in his second season with Sussex after playing for Hampshire from 2009-15.
