SPENCER Champ finished the season as the top wicket-taker in Southern League Division One despite his side’s final game being abandoned after 13 overs of the second innings.
Champ becomes the first Hook and Newnham Basics player to win an individual award since Keith Lovelock won the batting accolade in 2001.
Champ managed to strike twice in the short Totton innings, taking his tally for the season to 29, with his best return being 6-21 against Basingstoke and North Hants.
The final result had no bearing on where Hook finished in the table as they were already assured of second place.
