HOOK and Newham Basics will look to keep the pressure on Southern League Division One leaders New Milton when they entertain mid-table Andover this weekend.

Last time the teams met, it was a high scoring contest of nearly 550 runs. Hook won by six wickets, thanks to some fine batting from Nick Willcock, Matt Buckingham and Matt Love.

The game also saw a century from free-scoring David Taylor. He is Andover’s danger man and the leading run scorer in the division.

Andover will arrive at the King George V Playing Fields sitting fifth in the table, having won their last two games.

Hook skipper Love is expecting another tough game and said: “We know Andover have a number of dangerous players who can take the game away from you.

“We lost the last time we played at home, so we will be looking to put that right this weekend.”

Wicket-keeper Josh Buckingham is unavailable, so his brother, Matt, will take over the gloves behind the stumps.

Love has yet to decide who to bring into the team, but Richard Willcock is also unavailable.

Last weekend, Hook needed all of their overs to beat bottom side Calmore Sports by three wickets

The home side scored 224-7, but Matt Buckingham hit a match-winning 88, with Josh Buckingham (39 not out) hitting the winning runs in the final over.

Love said: “We have won a few games easily, so it was nice to win a tight game.”
