TOP British Bison forward Ciaran Long is set to write his name into the club’s record books this weekend, as he looks to become the Herd’s all-time top English Premier League top points scorer.

The Brit is just one point behind the current leader former captain Nicky Chinn, who has 255 EPL Bison points to his name.

The 25-year-old is now in sixth season with the Herd in the EPL having made his debut for the Bison during their days in the Elite League back in season 2008/09.

Last weekend, Long collected three points to move himself to just one point shy of the top spot.

The side standing in the way of Long reaching the record this weekend are the Hull Pirates.

The Bison face the Yorkshire side first at home on Saturday (6.30pm) and then on Sunday (5.30pm) they travel to Humberside to complete a double header weekend with their EPL rivals.

When Hull were last in town only a fortnight ago, Long helped himself to a brace of goals and same again will do very nicely on Saturday.

He is currently on a very nice points streak at the moment.

Long has picked up at least one point in last 12 games.

The last time he was blanked in a game was Boxing Day last year.

Bison head coach Doug Sheppard is full of praise for one of his star forwards in his line-up and said: “Ciaran is playing extremely well at the moment and it is always nice to see players set new records for the club.

“He is very talented and gifted player and has a lot more years to come.

Sheppard added: “He is an big offensive threat on team, but also takes care of business in defensive end as well.”

Saturday will also see the Herd keen to snap a three game losing streak, which included a rare home defeat last Saturday to leaders Telford.

Boosting their chances of victory this week is the fact the Herd will welcome back Ivan Antonov and Stuart Mogg into their line-up.

Both Bison players have both been away playing for Great Britain in the World Universiade in Kazakhstan and have missed the last four Bison games.

The team finished in their highest ever position of tenth after an excellent 3-1 win over Korea, in which Antonov scored the final goal for the game.

The tournament also saw them suffer defeat against Slovakia, Canada and the USA.

The Bison could also see the return of injured forward Joe Miller could also be back to give the Herd a full line-up.

So far this season the series is tied 2-2 with Hull with all the games having been won by the home teams.

Looking ahead to the dead header with Hull, Bison boss Sheppard said: “It is great to have Stuart (Mogg) and Ivan (Antonov) back. It is never easy playing a team twice in one weekend, but the first aim is get back to winning ways at home.”
