THE Basingstoke Bison slipped down to fifth in the English Premier League table, after they lost by the odd goal in seven against the Hull Pirates.

The visitors had the better of the opening 20 minutes and posted 20 shots on Jordan Marr, but trailed 2-1 at the break.

Hull's Jordan Fisher, with his first goal of the season, opened the scoring with a shot from the top of the circle.

The Bison then levelled things as Stuart Mogg's cross was converted by Matt Towalski.

The home side then took the lead 10 seconds before the buzzer from Dominic Osman.

However, Bison goalie Tomas Hiadlovsky felt he was knocked over by Stanislav Lascek, before the puck went into the net and he told referee Andrew Miller just this.

This earned the netminder a 10 minute misconduct penalty, which was served by Grant Rounding.

The second session saw Tomas Karpov pick up his second penalty of the season for diving, after he had been hooked by Liam Kirk.

The Herd then levelled things on the powerplay, thanks to a blue line rocket from Derek Roehl.

The Bison then drew first blood in the final session, as Karpov's pass found Stuart Mogg to fire home his first goal of the season.

A roughing penalty on the returning Alan Lack, saw the league's leading scorer Andrej Themar tie things up once more on the powerplay.

As the game looked set to go into overtime, the Pirates were given one final powerplay and they made the most of it.

Themar's shot from the right wing came off the pads of Bison man of the match Hiadlovsky and Ugnius Cizas fired home the rebound at 57:37.

This set up a frantic finale as the Bison looked for an equaliser, with Karpov coming the closest.

The Bison are next in action on Friday night away in Milton Keynes, which is the first game of a triple header, which sees Telford visit Basingstoke on Saturday, before a trip to Blackpool on Sunday to take on the Manchester Phoenix.
