CAIN Russell grabbed a hat-trick as the Basingstoke under-13 Bison went top of South One as they beat visiting Invicta 6-3.

The first session ended 2-2 as the Kent side opened the scoring only for Russell to reply with a brace, which were assisted by Henry Emery, Travis Penny and Samuel Hemming-Maher.

The second period saw Invicta take the lead again, but two goals in the space 80 seconds saw the young Herd take control.

Charlie Wedge netted the first and then Penny scored shorthanded to make it 4-3 The home side wrapped up the scoring in the final session, as Russell completed his hat-trick and then Hemming-Maher scored which gave Penny his fifth point of the game as he returned an impressive 1+4.
