ANGELA Goodwin was the big winner at Basingstoke and Mid Hants Athletic Club’s senior awards evening.

The distance runner won three awards, picking up the senior women’s cross country prize, the road running club championship and the road running age graded title.

On the track, Dean Showler-Davis won the men’s Senior Performance of the Year Award after several top displays over 200m, while Gemma Wildash’s performance in the 2,000m steeplechase earned her the women’s title. The field awards went to discus star Evie Wilcox and Sam Sleap, who cleared 4.51m to set a new club record for the pole vault.

Ben Hazell, Joe Flitcroft and Rebecca Sleap were rewarded for their efforts with clubman and woman awards, while Owen Richardson, Gemma Finch and Lucy Wildash were honoured for their performances as newcomers to the senior team.

Jermaine Mays won the men’s cross country award, while Ray Watkins and Maria Henry were named as the club’s top veteran performers.

Jackie Tobin was awarded the Roger Hazell Memorial Trophy for officials.

The road running section’s club championship was held over the course of 16 races. Alex Hamilton won the men’s title, ahead of Matt Shaylor and Andy Waddington, while Charlotte Earl and Caroline Porter finished second and third to Goodwin in the women’s event.

The men’s age-graded title was won by Russell Burton, ahead of Waddington and Hamilton. Jenny Froud and Earl were second and third to Goodwin in the women’s event, with Burton winning the overall title.

Graham Hill was voted runner of the year after an impressive performance at the Brighton Marathon, while Matt Lyness took home the most improved runner title after knocking more than a minute off his 5km personal best.
