HARTLEY Wintney and Whitchurch United will join Basingstoke Town in the hat for the second qualifying draw today.

The North Hampshire minnows both recorded their third wins in the competition this season as Hartley took the scalp of Southern Leaguers Bashley winning 1-0 and Whitchurch beat fellow Wessex League division one side Brockenhurst 2-0.

Both teams will now wait to see if they have a plum tie in the second qualifying round and a trip to the Camrose to face Basingstoke Town would not go a miss for either side.

Hartley left it late to book their place in the next round against visiting Bashley, as Dan Brownlie scored their winner eight minutes from time to leave boss Neville Roach, a member of Basingstoke Town’s giant killing team at Chesterfield the chance to plot the downfall of another big name side.

Meanwhile at Longmeadow, Whitchurch got off to great start as Ashley Childs and Grant Powell both were denied one-on-one chances early on.

Thorn in the side Childs continued to be a thorn in the side of visiting Brockenhurst and was rewarded with a goal after 20 minutes.

The New Forest side then had a good spell of pressure but it remained 1-0 at half-time.

After the break, Brockenhurst came looking for an equaliser and Tom Hindmarsh produced two great saves to keep his side in front.

‘Church then made sure of the victory as new signing Mario Nurse crossed for Alex Dockree to make it 2-0 near the end.

An overjoyed Whitchurch boss Jim Macey said: “We have never been this far in the competition so it is great for everyone involved at the club and it was tremendous that Hartley won as well.

“I am proud of my players it was not easy today, but we have got the result as we have in the other two games.”

“We quite fancy an away trip now to Basingstoke or Eastleigh, that would suit me fine, but we have to wait and see who we are drawn against.”
