The Basingstoke Bison beat the visiting Sheffield Steeldogs 3-1 in a feisty encounter on Saturday night Two goals in the space of 18 seconds in the first period, won the game for the home side as Victor Kubenko and Nicky Chinn both scored.
Sheffield pulled themselves back into the game, thanks to Chris Sykes’ strike early in the second period.
However, great set-up play by Bison man-of-the-match Callum Best saw Mindy Kieras score to make it 3-1.
After that the home side dominated the shot count, but could not find a way past the outstanding Steeldogs’ man-of-the-match goalie Ben Bowns.
Just before the break, the game boiled over as Chinn took on Kriss Grundmaris in what was only the warm-up bout.
In the final period, Bison’s Chris Wiggins fought Ryan Johnson and then biggest cheer of the night was reserved for Best and he put down Scott Morris.
