THE CROWD roared in appreciation as Basingstoke's Rob Holte raised his arms in victory.

This was no ordinary success in his home town at the Vyne Community School in the latest Varsity Pro Wrestling event.

This was the biggest match of his still young career, Holte had just overcome former WWE superstar Bob "Hardcore" Holly.

“Without a doubt, it was my finest moment in the ring and probably the most memorable moment of my life so far,” said a humbled Holte.

“To even step into the ring with a legend like Bob Holly is an honour but to actually beat him clean in a singles match?

“Unbelievable. It's definitely one for the CV!”

The audience, many of whom were sporting blue and yellow Rob Holte T-shirts, were equally overwhelmed with the result.

"It’s incredible" said longtime Holte fan Ian Mortimer. "I've seen Rob wrestle all over the South but this was the best I've ever seen him".

It's onwards and upwards now for Holte, who has issued an open challenge for the next VPW show (date to be announced next week so check varsityprowrestling. com for details).

Holte said: “I'll take on any comers. Whether it be the UK Kid, Jake McCluskey or even if Bob wants a rematch, I'll fight them and I'll win.”

The Varsity Pro Wrestling event, held in a packed auditorium at the Vyne, was a superb evening of action that also featured the wrestling debut of another Basingstoke Boy, Trevor Manners.

Despite putting up a valiant fight, Manners fell in defeat to wily veteran The UK Kid.

Not content with his victory, the self-proclaimed International Superstar made a second appearance later in the evening, challenging another VPW newcomer, Leon Shah, to a match.

The Kid quickly had his braggadocious mouth shut by the physically imposing Shah, who emerged victorious.

In other action, Jake McCluskey beat T-Bone and Pride of England Robbie Everest beat the Gymnastic Fantastic Christopher Starr.
