ARCHIE Hutchins earned a unanimous points decision to beat Lawrence Cartwright and win the Southern Counties Junior Amateur Boxing Association title.

The Basingstoke boxer produced a string of clean punches to claim the title, with all five judges |favouring him over Lymington’s Cartwright, who employed pressure tactics.

Cartwright had won when the pair met earlier in the season, so the result was sweet revenge for Hutchins, who now moves on to a national pre-quarter final against Derek Nurdin of Blandford ABC.

The Basingstoke fighter has already beaten him once this year and will be favourite to progress when they meet again.

A number of other Basingstoke ABC boxers have been in action recently.

Dean Howard and Tyron Francis travelled to Horsham, where Howard took on Brighton City’s Matteo Aguigaro and Francis fought Moulscombe’s Michael Sakyi.

Howard forced a standing eight count with a powerful left hook in the opening round and, while Aguigaro held on to go the three round distance, the Basingstoke man was an easy winner.

Francis also won, with his opponent never able to get to grips with some smart boxing.

Jake Emmett, Billy Batusha and Bryce Goodridge all fought at the Sweet Science show in Whitchurch. Goodridge won his bout but Batusha and Emmett both lost.
