EVEREST College played host to the Badminton League’s Restricted tournament, which had been postponed due to snow in February.

The ladies played in one section of seven pairs and saw joint top seeds, Hayley Kopp/Andrea Hill win all their six games, closely followed by Anu Davies/Sophia Rapacioli who only dropped six points.

The final between these two pairs saw Kopp and Hill take the title 30-20.

The men’s event was divided into two sections of six pairs. The top seeds, Alex Wigmore/Steve Harrison, won section A without losing a point, followed by Simon Williamson/Ben Ansell, who had lost only one point.

The winners of Section B were Vince Yong/Gin Lee with Keith Miles/Robert Jackson in second place.

Wigmore/ Harrison beat Miles/Jackson 30-23 in the first semi-final while Williamson/Ansell accounted for Yong/Lee with a 30-27 in the second.

The final was not quite so close as Wigmore/Harrison beat Williamson/Ansell 30-20.

The Mixed Section had 18 pairs and was divided into three divisions.

The experienced Carlo Rapacioli partnered his daughter Sophia and was unbeaten in winning Division One, followed by Phil Carley/Hayley McCall, 10 points behind.

Division Two proved to be very close with top pair Steve Harrison and Kim Street, unbeaten, followed by three of the other five pairs, Martin Hill/Amanda Marsden, James Bartlett/Sandra Smith and Mark Bayliss/Cathryn Perkins all level on the same points.

Martin Webb/Hayley Kopp just pipped the top pair by one point for first place in Division Three.

The three division winners, plus the best runner-up, Martin Davey and Lesley Acheson, played in the two semi-finals.

The father and daughter combination of Carlo/Sophia Rapacioli beat Davey/Acheson 30-19 in the first semi-final while Webb/Kopp got the better of Harrison/Street 30-14.

The final ended in a victory for the Rapacioli father and daughter team beating Webb/Kopp 30-23.
