The Bank Holiday weekend brought a mixed bag of results for Basingstoke Town as a 4-0 away victory over Hanworth Villa preceded a 2-0 home defeat to Binfield.

Saturday’s match at Hanworth Villa saw a clinical performance from Basingstoke as they unceremoniously ended the newly promoted hosts’ 49-match unbeaten run in the league with two goals in each half.

George Reid and Brad Wilson made the most of the two best chances in the first half, a delicate chip from a tight angle from Reid breaking the deadlock on 20 minutes before Wilson poked in a low cross just three minutes later.

Nathan Smart was bundled over in the box, allowing Wilson to convert a penalty for his second midway through the second half and young forward Ezio Touray completed the scoring with fifteen minutes to go, tackled home keeper Terry Buss and walking the ball into the net.

Despite the quick turnaround, Dan Brownlie named the exact same starting lineup and bench for the Monday clash with Binfield.

Paul Strudley was called into action early, saving twice from Taylor Morgan while the visitors also hit the bar with a close-range header. At the other end, Wilson stung the palms of Chris Grace with a well-struck free kick, but Binfield took the lead early in the second period as a peach of a cross was glance in by Connor Holland.
