BASINGSTOKE Disc Golf club members will be looking for glory at their home venue when Down Grange Sports Complex hosts the World Flying Disc Federation World Overall Flying Disc Championships from Monday until Saturday July 29.

Rob Hamilton, Phil Harrison, Jennie Lewis, Dazza Locke, Tracy Hamilton, Shaun Lewis, Paul Nickless, Allen Gilbert and Aldworth School pupil Emily Hamilton with be hoping to triumph for the British team.

Also in the British team are grandmasters Charlie Mead and Derek Robins are British and European champions.

They will face stiff competition as over 100 players will be coming to town from right across the world, including Canada, USA, New Zealand, India, Germany, Sweden and the Czech Republic.

The Basingstoke club beat off bids from the USA, Asia and Europe to host the bi-annual event, and is the pinnacle of disc sport, the overall competition consists of seven different frisbee disciplines including accuracy, distance, discathon, disc golf, self caught flight, and the team games of double disc court and freestyle.

There will be events going on from 8am until 5pm on all days of the competition and this is your chance to see the best of the sport and it is all free.

The club hoping that by hosting this event, the Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council can be persuaded to put up permanent baskets in Down Grange.

This would mean anyone can enjoy disc golf at any time and it is a sport which spans right across age groups.
