BASINGSTOKE’S Laurie Taylor admits he must learn to cut out the errors should he want to enjoy future success at the Delancey British National Alpine Ski Championships.

The speed events gave way to the technical disciplines in Tignes, after a start to the Championships that had seen some of Great Britain’s brightest talents prosper.

Taylor is one such budding Brit and the 19-year-old had avoided competing in both the Super-G and downhill races, instead concentrating all his efforts for his preferred events.

He clocked an aggregate time of 2:01.53 minutes in the Giant Slalom, some three seconds behind the British podium pack as he came home 33rd, before failing to finish his next three races over the weekend.

“I crashed on the first GS run so I was just going for it in the second which is OK, I put down some good skiing in there but I’m making a few too many mistakes at the moment,” he said.

“I’m happy with the way I’m skiing, I haven’t got the results to match yet but I know I’m not far away. And I think I’m close enough to the British guys on the podium to be happy with where I am.

“My slalom is my strongest event and it’s been going well, it’s going to plan in training and I just need to learn to put it down in the race.”

Following the success of the Great Britain team at Sochi 2014 and with the support of Snowsport England’s national participation campaign GO SKI GO BOARD, it has been a tremendous year for British winter sports.

GO SKI GO BOARD started in September 2013 and more than 40,000 new people had taken at least one taster or coaching session through the campaign by the end of last year.

And Taylor is confident practice will ultimately make perfect after missing out on podium chances in the weekend’s National Junior Championships events.

“I’m focusing mainly on tech events at the moment, we don’t train a lot of speed and I enjoy the tech races more which is why I didn’t compete at the start of the Championships,” added Taylor.

“Hopefully the training I’m doing can pay off.”
