BASINGSTOKE golfer Stuart Archibald finished in a tie for 26th place at The Concra Wood Open in Ireland last week.

The 30-year-old ended the tournament on +2, 11 shots behind the winner, following a disappointing final round. Having shot 71 (-1) on the first day and 72 (par) on day two, Archibald was in contention for a top-10 finish going into the last day.

However, his closing round got off to a poor start, with a double-bogey seven at the first hole. Further bogeys at holes 15 and 17 dropped the Worting man further down the leaderboard and while he was able to pick up his only birdie of the day at the last, he had to settle for a share of 26th place.

Earlier in the tournament, Archibald had birdied three of the first four holes to dip under par for his opening round, just five shots off the pace. He was unable to build on that in his second round, a level-par score leaving him out of contention for victory but still in with a shout of a high finish.

The result leaves Archibald 41st on the EuroPro Tour Order of Merit, on course for a place at the Tour Championship but well off the top-five position he needs to earn a spot on the Challenge Tour for next season.

He is back in Ireland this week, competing at The Walk in My Shoes Open, which got under way at Mount Wolseley Golf Club yesterday.
